Clanwilliam Edge Out Bandon

On Sunday 3rd October, Clanwiliam F.C. welcomed Bandon RFC to Clanwilliam Park for the Quarter Final of the Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Cup.

In what was truly a game of two halves, Clanwilliam had to withstand a lot of pressure in the first half. Bandon playing with a strong wind behind them, went into the break leading 17 – 7.

Clanwilliam turned the game around in the second half, with the inspirational Niall Leahy leading the charge, contributing two tries, a penalty and two conversions.

With the game nearing its conclusion, only five points separated the teams. The inevitable Bandon fight back continued right to the final whistle, but the resilient Clan defence ensured that Bandon were held scoreless in the second half.

The final scoreline read Clanwilliam F.C. 22 – Bandon RFC 17.

Clanwilliam now progress to the Semi Final of the Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Cup, where they’ll face Mallow RFC, with the game scheduled to take place on 5th December in Clanwilliam Park.

Special mention to all the Clanwilliam supporters, who really got behind the team yesterday, and buoyed on by that support, the Clan 1st XV managed to edge out a very good Bandon side.

Sunday 10th October sees the start of the League, and Clanwilliam 1st XV are away to Richmond RFC with a 2.30 kick off.
